General Advice

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What if I don’t know what I want to do yet?
That’s completely okay, this is exactly what the mentoring space is for. You don’t need to have it all figured out. Your mentor can help you explore your interests, learn about the sector, and think through potential paths.

2. What if I miss a session or need to reschedule?
We understand that things come up! Just let your mentor know as soon as possible if you need to rearrange. Try to give at least 24 hours’ notice where you can, and always aim to reschedule at a mutually convenient time.

3. How are mentors selected?
Mentors are experienced Black professionals working in or connected to the conservation/environmental sector. They’ve volunteered to offer tailored, understanding support to others navigating similar spaces. We match you based on your interests, goals and availability where possible.

4. Do I have to commit to all six sessions?
No, six is the maximum number of sessions offered, but you don’t have to complete all six. The programme is flexible and designed around what’s useful and manageable for you.

5. Can I ask for more than six sessions?
Yes,  if you and your mentor are both available and agree it would be helpful, you can arrange additional sessions together. Just keep us updated if you continue beyond six so we can support where needed.

6. Is everything online?
Yes, all sessions are held online via Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or WhatsApp video, whichever works best for you and your mentor.

7. Can I contact The Conservation Equity Project team during the programme?
